Charleroi, like any town, has its ties to history and celebrities. Here are just a few people that are linked to the Charleroi area:
Natalie
Raitano appeared with Pamela Anderson on V.I.P.
Shirley
Jones was born in Charleroi on March 31, 1934. She later lived in Smithton,
PA where her family owned Stoney's Brewery.
Donald P. Bellisario was born in Charleroi and lived in Cokeburg, PA.
Craig McCracken was born in Charleroi and moved to California where he created the Powerpuff Girls.
Olive Thomas was born in Charleroi and became a film star in the silent-movie era.
Barbara
Bosson was born in Charleroi and lived in Belle Vernon, PA. Remember
her in Hill Street Blues?
Lisa Kirk was born
in Charleroi and became a star as a singer during the "Big Band"
era.
Myron
Pottios attended Charleroi High School and played linebacker for the
Pittsburgh Steelers, the Los Angeles Rams and the Washington
Redskins.
Fred
Cox taught Pennsylvania History at Charleroi Area High School in 1967. Tom
Frantz, as I recall, had a special connection with Mr. Cox. Boy, could he
swing a paddle! He could also kick a football, just ask any Minnesota Viking
fan.
Demi
(Guynes) Moore apparently attended Charleroi High School for a year while
her father worked for a local newspaper. Jose' confirms this and tells me
that she lived on Patricia Street on Rogers Lane. David Veres indicates that
she was in his sister Jean's 5th grade class.
David Veres has come up with another addition to the famous Charleroi connections. Hardie Albright was born in Charleroi and appeared in one of David's favorite old movies, THE SILVER STREAK. According to David's father, the Albright family attended the Christ Lutheran Church on 6th and Washington. He was also the voice of the "older" Bambi in Walt Disney's BAMBI.
